Congo African Grey Parrot

Deep within the African rainforest lives one of the continent’s most fascinating parrot species, the Congo African Grey. This bird has a natural distribution across several countries in West and Central Africa, where tropical forests provide food, nesting cavities and suitable roosting sites. Its physical appearance is distinctive, with predominantly grey plumage, a powerful black bill and a bright red tail. Adult birds typically reach approximately 33 cm in length and weigh around 400 grams.

In the wild, Congo Greys are social animals that gather in groups, particularly around feeding and roosting locations. Their natural diet consists of fruits, nuts, seeds and other plant materials. Their intelligence is another remarkable feature, allowing them to recognize sounds, communicate with other birds and learn from their surroundings. Unfortunately, habitat destruction and illegal trapping have contributed to serious population declines, making conservation an important part of their future.
