Mealy Amazon Parrot

The Mealy Amazon is an impressive bird, especially when compared with some of the smaller Amazon species. Adults generally measure between 38 and 41 centimetres, with weights commonly ranging from approximately 540 to 700 grams.

Its body is predominantly green, but the feathers can have a slightly greyish or powdery appearance. This is the characteristic that inspired its common name. Some individuals also display subtle blue and yellow markings around the head, depending on their geographical population.

The wings are strong and broad, allowing the bird to move through forest environments with confidence. Its curved beak is powerful enough to handle different natural food items, while its feet are adapted for climbing and gripping branches.

Although the overall appearance may seem less colouful than that of a Yellow-Headed Amazon, the Mealy Amazon has an attractive and distinctive appearance of its own.

Its large body, gentle-looking facial expression and dusty green feathers make it one of the most recognizable larger Amazon parrots.
