Timneh African Grey Parrot
The Timneh African Grey is an interesting parrot that deserves just as much attention as its larger Congo relative. Although both species share remarkable intelligence and vocal abilities, the Timneh has several physical characteristics that make it easy to identify. Its feathers are generally darker charcoal-grey, while its tail displays a beautiful burgundy or deep maroon coloration rather than the bright red seen in Congo Greys. It also has a distinctive lighter upper beak.
Originally from the Upper Guinea forests of West Africa, this species is naturally found in countries such as Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. An adult normally measures around 30 cm and weighs approximately 320 grams. In terms of personality, Timnehs are observant, curious and capable of developing close relationships with their caregivers. They benefit from patience, regular interaction and a stimulating environment. Their smaller body does not mean they have smaller care requirements.
