Lutino Indian Ringneck Parakeet
The Lutino Indian Ringneck is one of the most eye-catching color varieties found in captive Ringneck breeding. Unlike the familiar green form, this bird has bright yellow plumage, giving it an almost golden appearance. Its eyes are typically red or pinkish because of the reduced melanin associated with the lutino mutation.
The Lutino coloration is a genetic mutation rather than a separate species. It occurs within the Rose-ringed Parakeet and has become particularly popular among breeders who specialize in producing different feather colors. The mutation affects the bird’s pigmentation, replacing the normal green appearance with yellow while reducing dark feather pigments.
Despite its unusual color, a Lutino Ringneck shares the basic body structure and behavioral characteristics of a normally colored Indian Ringneck. It is active, intelligent, curious and capable of learning sounds and words. Its long tail, strong curved beak and climbing ability remain the same.
