FALLOW COCKATIEL: Size, Physical Characteristics and Eye Colour
The Fallow Cockatiel has the same general body structure as other cockatiel varieties, but its reduced pigmentation produces a softer appearance. Its light brown feathers, pale yellow areas and reddish eyes make it particularly interesting to breeders who appreciate unusual colour variations.
An adult Fallow generally measures approximately 30–33 centimetres from head to tail. Its average weight is around 80–100 grams, although individual birds may vary.
The body is slender, with a long tail and broad wings. Like other cockatiels, it has a curved beak suited to handling seeds and other foods, while its strong feet help it grip perches and climb.
Its plumage can range from light cinnamon-brown to deeper bronze shades. Some birds display yellowish coloring around the chest, head and crest.
The eyes are particularly important when examining this mutation. Many Fallow forms have reddish or clear red eyes, although the precise appearance depends on the genetic variety.
Fallow Cockatiels should not be confused with Cinnamon birds simply because both can have brown feathers. Their genetic backgrounds are different, and an experienced breeder may use parentage and inheritance information to distinguish them.
