LUTINO COCKATIEL: Size, Physical Characteristics and Identifying Features

The Lutino Cockatiel has a delicate appearance that makes it stand out among the different cockatiel colour varieties. Its pale plumage creates a beautiful contrast with its orange cheek patches, while its expressive crest gives it the familiar silhouette associated with the species.

An adult Lutino usually measures approximately 30–33 centimetres from the top of its head to the end of its tail. Its average weight is around 80–100 grams, although healthy individuals may fall outside this range. Like other cockatiels, it has a slender body, long tail feathers, curved beak and strong feet designed for gripping branches.

The most noticeable characteristic is its yellow-and-white plumage. The head and crest are commonly bright yellow, while the body may range from creamy white to pale golden yellow. Orange cheek patches are usually present on both sides of the face.

Its eyes are another distinguishing feature. Because the mutation reduces dark pigmentation, the eyes often appear red or ruby-colored. The feet and beak may also have a lighter appearance than those of a Normal Grey Cockatiel.

Unlike some mutations, the Lutino does not have a completely uniform appearance. Two birds from different breeding lines may show noticeable differences in body color, cheek markings and feather brightness.
